Fightins get series win behind Lively

The Fightin Phils win another one-run game against Portland

The Fightin Phils (23-19) defeat the Portland Sea Dogs 3-2 on Sunday afternoon (18-26) in another one-run game that has taken place throughout the series. Ben Lively (4-1) led the way as he earned his second win against Portland this season.  

KC Serna help set up the Fightin Phils first run in the top of the first inning off Sea Dogs starter Luis Diaz as he walked with one out. Serna would steal second base then score on a RBI single by Brock Stassi, after advancing to third base on a throwing error by Luis Martinez. Harold Martinez would extend the Fightins lead to 2-0 in the top of the third inning as he hit his second home run of the season off Diaz. 

Portland would get on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning off Lively as Jantzen Witte would hit a RBI double to score Carlos Asuaje and cut the lead for Reading to 2-1. The Sea Dogs would see the lead go back to two runs, 3-1 as Brian Pointer would hit a RBI single off Diaz in the top of the sixth inning.

Lively left the game after 5 2/3 innings. He allowed two runs off five hits with two walks and five strikeouts. Adam Loewen entered the game to record the final out in the bottom of the sixth inning. He would give up a RBI single to Marco Hernandez that would be charged to Lively and cut the Fightins lead to 3-2.  

Loewen tossed 1 1/3 scoreless innings in relief with two strikeouts in his first appearance back with the Fightin Phils. Nefi Ogando earned his second save of the season by pitching two scoreless innings with two walks and two strikeouts.  

The Fightin Phils will wrap up their series with the SeaDogs on Memorial Day. First pitch is at 1:00 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 12:30 pm.
