Intimidators take second game of series 4-1

May 26, 2015

Kannapolis starter Yency Almonte allowed one run in seven innings, and Brad Salgado pitched two scoreless innings in relief as the Intimidators defeated the Lexington Legends 4-1 Tuesday night in Kannapolis.

The Legends scored their only run in the top of the first inning. Humberto Arteaga led off the game with a single, stole second base, went to third on a single by Michael Hill and scored on a base hit by Alfredo Escalera.

Kannapolis claimed the lead for good in the bottom of the first. Eddy Alvarez, Christian Stringer and Louie Lechich all singled, loading the bases with no outs. Alvarez scored as Nick Basto grounded into a double play. Ryan Leonards grounded to Arteaga at shortstop, and Stringer scored the go-ahead run when first baseman Samir Duenez was unable to handle the throw from Arteaga.

The score remained 2-1 until the bottom of the seventh. With one out, Michael Danner singled and stole second.    After Ethan Gross walked, Zach Fish singled to left field, scoring Danner.

The Intimidators scored their final run in the eighth. Lechich led off with a single, stole second, went to third after Basto flied out to center field, and scored on a wild pitch.

Almonte (3-2) got the win. He allowed seven hits and one run in the first seven innings. Salgado did not allow a hit over the final two innings and picked up his third save of the season.

Legends starter Nik Stephenson (1-3) was the losing pitcher.

Kannapolis has taken the first two games in the series, which concludes Wednesday. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
