Redbirds Blank Salt Lake In Twinbill Opener, 2-0

Lyons Hurls Seven-Inning Complete Game Shutout
June 1, 2015

MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Tyler Lyons fired a three-hit, seven-inning complete-game shutout as the Memphis Redbirds blanked the Salt Lake Bees, 2-0, in the first game of Monday's doubleheader at AutoZone Park.

Lyons (4-2) threw only 74 pitches (52 for strikes) while extending his Redbirds franchise record of seven career complete games. The left-hander allowed three hits, struck out four, and walked none to lower his ERA to 2.98.

Outfielder Stephen Piscotty recorded two hits to extend his hitting streak to a season-best eight games. Second baseman Alex Mejia also chimed in with two hits while driving in a run.

Memphis took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning as Xavier Scruggs opened with a walk, moved to third on a Greg Garcia double, and scored as Alex Mejia grounded out to second.

Two frames later, the club tacked on an insurance run after Jacob Wilson was hit by a pitch and came around to score on a flair by Travis Tartamella.
