Rainiers Top River Cats, 8-1

Sacramento held to three hits, Kivlehan clubs 11th home run
June 7, 2015

WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Five combined RBI from Stefen Romero and Patrick Kivlehan powered the Tacoma Rainiers to an 8-1 victory over the Sacramento River Cats on Sunday afternoon at Raley Field.

Tacoma starting pitcher Justin Germano allowed just one run on two hits through his 6.0 innings of work, posting four strikeouts along the way to earn his fifth win of the year.

Edgar Olmos and Kevin Gregg combined for 3.0 shutout innings out of the Rainiers bullpen, allowing only one hit next to five combined strikeouts.

The Rainiers offense totaled nine hits, led by a pair of base knocks from Jesus Montero and Franklin Gutierrez, to chase River Cats starter Nik Turley after just 2.0 innings of work.

Ehire Adrianza led off the Sacramento first with a solo home run to give the River Cats an early 1-0 lead.

Gutierrez opened the next frame with a leadoff single and proceeded to steal second base before trotting home on Kivlehan's two-run bomb that gave the Rainiers a 2-1 lead.

The Rainiers smacked four hits, two of which went for extra bases, and took advantage of one Sacramento error and two walks to post a crooked number in the third inning. Shawn O'Malley's RBI single to right field capped off a five-run frame and gave Tacoma a comfortable 7-1 lead.

James Jones' speed produced Tacoma's final run in the fourth when he reached base on a leadoff walk, advanced to third on a Montero single to right-center, and scored on a wild pitch to widen the final margin to 8-1.

Tacoma throws their other five-game winner, right hander Sam Gaviglio (5-4, 4.31) in game three of the series tomorrow, June 8. Sacramento answers with lefty Ty Blach (5-5, 3.63) in the penultimate contest. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.
