Manuel Margot Promoted to Sea Dogs

Red Sox 7th Ranked Prospect Added to Sea Dogs Roster

Portland, Maine- The Boston Red Sox have promoted outfielder Manuel Margot to the Portland Sea Dogs from High-A Salem. Margot is scheduled to make his Sea Dog debut tonight (Monday, June 22) against the Reading Fightin Phils in Reading, Pennsylvania. Sea Dogs outfielder Dave Sappelt was placed on the disabled list.

Margot, 20, was signed by the Red Sox as an international free agent on July 2, 2011, from the Dominican Republic. He batted .282/.321/.420 with 3 home runs, 17 RBI, 11 walks, 15 strikeouts, and 20 stolen bases in 46 games with High-A Salem this season. He did not record his first strikeout until his 17th game (70th plate appearance) of the season.

Margot is ranked by Baseball America as the No. 7 prospect in the Red Sox system and the No. 72 prospect in all of baseball, as well as the Fastest Baserunner and Best Defensive Outfielder in the Red Sox system.

In his first year playing full-season professional baseball in 2014, Margot combined between Low-A Greenville (99 games) and High-A Salem (16 games) to hit .293/.356/.462 with 12 home runs, 59 RBI, and led all Red Sox minor leaguers with 42 stolen bases. He was named the Base Runner of the Year for the Red Sox organization.

The Sea Dogs begin a seven-game homestand this Saturday, June 27th, against the Reading Fightin Phils at 6:00 PM.
