Hudson Valley Drops a Close One To Vermont

June 26, 2015

Wappingers Falls, NY (6/26/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades fell in a tightly contested game to the Vermont Lake Monsters by a score of 3-1 on Friday evening at Dutchess Stadium.

The Lake Monsters picked up a run in the top of the first inning as lead off batter Skye Bolt tripled off the center field wall and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by right fielder Steven Pallares. Hudson Valley leveled the score a 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth inning on a two-out RBI double by designated hitter Cade Gotta, scoring shortstop Michael Russell, who doubled earlier in the inning.

Vermont took a 2-1 lead in the top of the fifth inning on shortstop Mikey White's RBI double, scoring Pallares who singled earlier in the inning. That ended the day for Renegades starting pitcher Cameron Varga (0-1), who took the loss after working four and two-thirds innings and allowed two runs on six hits.

The score would not change for the next few innings, as it wasn't until the top of the ninth inning when the Lake Monsters added an insurance run to take a 3-1 lead. Against Hudson Valley relief pitcher Michael Velasquez, Bolt drove in a run on a RBI sacrifice fly after three straight batters singled.

Lee Sosa (1-0) earned the win for Vermont after throwing three scoreless innings after coming in to relieve starting pitcher Kevin Ferreras, who went four innings allowing one run. Vermont's Tyler Painton picked up the save after throwing a scoreless eighth and ninth inning.

Notes: With Gotta's RBI double in the bottom of the third inning, he extended his streak to three straight games with a double. And each of Gotta's five hits on the home stand have gone for doubles. He now sees his average rise to .346 on the season with three RBI.

Saturday evening is "App-solutley Cool App-etizers Night" at Dutchess Stadium presented by First Niagara.
