Jackson's late homer powers Frogs to 5-3 win

Mariners' top prospect hits first home run with Everett
July 1, 2015

EVERETT, Wash. - Alex Jackson hit his first home run in an AquaSox uniform and the Frogs rallied in the eighth for four runs, taking a 5-3 win over Boise on Tuesday, June 30, at Everett Memorial Stadium. Corey Simpson went 3 for 4 with a pair of doubles and RBIs for Everett.

The AquaSox are out of town for a three-game set with Tri-City, but return for the 4th of July. Come see the game against the Hillsboro Hops, celebrate with a fireworks display, and bid to win a game-worn special 4th of July Hat on Independence Day. Tickets are available online at aquasox.com and in the front office at 3802 Broadway in Everett.

Jordan Cowan led off the four-run eighth in a big way, with a towering double. Two batters later, Yojhan Quevedo benefitted from miscommunication in the outfield, allowing a single to drop and Quevedo to advance to second on a throwing error. Yordi Calderon replaced Quevedo as a pinch runner.

Simpson snuck a ground ball up the middle for his third hit, scoring Calderon and Cowan. Jackson stepped up next and took the first pitch he saw over the fence in right-center field for a two-run blast to give the AquaSox the lead for good, 5-3.

Boise got a pair of early home runs from Yonathan Daza and Kevin Padlo to go up 3-1 for most of the game.

Everett got its early run in the bottom half of the first thanks to Cowan's baserunning. Cowan walked to lead off, stole second, and then moved to third on an overthrown pickoff attempt. Braden Bishop hit a long flyout that allowed Cowan to tag up and score.

Spencer Herrmann and Troy Scott combined for six innings of relief work, five hits, no runs and four strikeouts. Scott took his third win of the year, improving to 3-1.
