Offensive Fireworks Propel Captains To Win

(Lansing, MI) -After being swept in a two game series at home at the hands of the Lansing Lugnuts, the Lake County Captains celebrated the Fourth of July by picking up a 5-1 win in Lansing. One night after being shut out on just three hits, the Captains scored their five runs by banging out thirteen hits in front of a crowd of 11,103. The win moves the Captains back to .500 on the season.

The Captains would jump on the board in the top of the first inning. Greg Allen doubled to start the game. He would move to third on a Bobby Ison single. Anthony Santander would then drive in Allen with an RBI sacrifice fly for a 1-0 lead.

Lake County would add another run in the top of the third inning. Allen once again got the inning started with a single. He would move to second on another Ison base hit. Santander delivered again then with a base hit to score Allen from second to push the lead out to 2-0.  

Lansing would get their lone run on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning. Dawel Lugo started the inning by blasting his first homerun of the season. It was a solo homerun to leftfield.

The Captains would answer back with another run in the fifth inning. With one out, Santander singled. He moved to second on a Bobby Bradley walk. Yonathan Mendoza would then single to centerfield to score Santander from second to give the Captains a 3-1 lead.  

Lake County would put the game away in the top of the ninth inning. With one out Ordomar Valdez singled and stole second. He would then score when Ison tripled to rightfield. Ison would follow Valdez to the plate two pitches later when he scored on a wild pitch to make the score 5-1.

Anderson Polanco (4-6) got the win after going 5.0 innings. He allowed just 1 run, earned, on 2 hits. He walked 1 and struck out 3. Nick Pasquale (6) earned the hold with 3.0 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed 3 hits. Pasquale did not walk a batter and struck out 3. Luke Eubank would pitch the final inning. He allowed 1 hit while striking out 2.   

The Captains will go for the two game sweep on Sunday afternoon with Thomas Pannone on the mound. First pitch is at 2:05pm and can be heard on 970AM WFUN.
