Phillies Pitcher Jerome Williams to Begin Rehab in Reading on Tues.

Philadelphia starter was placed on disabled list June 17th with strained left hamstring
July 6, 2015

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jerome Williams will begin a major league rehab assignment with the Reading Fightin Phils on Tuesday, the Phillies announced on Monday morning.

Williams is 3-7 with a 6.43 ERA in 14 starts with the Phillies this season. He was placed on the disabled list on June 17th with a strained left hamstring suffered in his start against Baltimore.

The right-handed pitcher was claimed off waivers in 2014 by Philadelphia from Texas last season and was a late-season surprise, going 4-2 with a 2.83 ERA in nine starts for the Phillies. Williams struck out a season-high eight batters against the Pittsburgh Pirates on September 10th, falling one strikeout shy of his career high. His successful stint with the Phillies in 2014 led to a one-year contract with the Phillies, taking him through the 2015 season.

A native of Honolulu, Hawaii, Williams was originally selected by the San Francisco Giants in the first round of the 1999 draft. Over his 10-year major league career, Williams is 48-54 with a 4.40 ERA in 192 games with San Francisco, Chicago (NL), Washington, Los Angeles (AL), Houston, Texas, and Philadelphia. Over 128 starts in his career, Williams has thrown three complete games and two shutouts.
