Hudson Valley Rallies Late But Falls to Brooklyn

July 29, 2015

Brooklyn, NY (7/29/15)- The Hudson Valley Renegades were defeated by the Brooklyn Cyclones by a score of 6-3 on Wednesday evening at MCU Park.

The Cyclones struck for three runs in the bottom of the first inning as center fielder Tucker Tharp and second baseman Vinny Siena each singled. They both came around to score on a two-run triple by right fielder Michael Bernal and then Bernal came home on a RBI ground out by third baseman David Thompson, giving Brooklyn a 3-0 lead.

Brooklyn extended that lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fifth inning on a solo home run by Tharp. That ended the night for Renegades starting pitcher Roel Ramirez (3-1) who gave up four runs in the loss in five innings of work.

Hudson Valley cut the Cyclones lead to 4-1 in the top of the sixth inning as second baseman Jake Cronenworth walked to lead off the frame. He moved to third on a single by designated hitter Joe McCarthy and scored on a RBI sacrifice fly by Cade Gotta.

Brooklyn added two more runs to take a 6-1 lead in the bottom of the eighth inning on a two-run home run by first baseman Jeff Diehl. But Hudson Valley rallied in the top of the ninth inning. After the Renegades loaded the bases with one out, a RBI ground out by first baseman Hector Montes and a RBI single by center fielder Angel Moreno cut the Brooklyn lead to 6-3. Brooklyn's closer Alex Palsha picked up his eighth save of the season as he struck out catcher Danny De La Calle to end the game.

The win went to Brooklyn's starting pitcher Kevin Canelon (3-2) as he allowed a run off four hits while striking out seven batters in six innings. With the result, the Renegades fell to 19-18 while the Cyclones improved to 20-17.

Notes: Matt Dacey went two-for-three on the night and improved his batting average to .254. The former University of Richmond infielder has done well hitting off of Brooklyn's pitching this season. In four games, Dacey is hitting .357 (5-14) with four extra-base hits and two RBI.
