Relentless RockHounds Take Game 3

August 1, 2015

MIDLAND, TX - Ryon Healy's two-out, two-run double in the seventh inning Saturday fortified Midland's third lead of the night, helping pave the way toward a 9-6 victory over the Hooks at Security Bank Ballpark.

Corpus Christi staged the tying run at the plate in the ninth thanks to consecutive two-out singles by Danry Vasquez, Teoscar Hernandez and Colin Moran. Seth Frankhoff responded by striking out A.J. Reed to end the game.

Renato Nunez and Matt Olson powered the engine for Midland (24-12, 59-47), combining to go 6-for-7 at the plate with four runs scored and four RBIs. Nunez notched a pair of doubles and Olson's two-run homer off Chris Cotton in the fifth, staked the Hounds to a 5-3 lead.

Corpus Christi (19-17, 67-39) leveled the game for a second time in the seventh. With two down and runners at second and third, Hernandez ripped a base hit up the middle, chasing home Conrad Gregor and Roberto Pena.

Travis Ballew (3-5) could not maintain neutrality, surrendering a walk and three knocks in the home half. The latter was the timely extra-base hit by Healy.

Edison Frias made his Double-A debut for the Hooks, yielding four runs on eight hits over four and two-thirds innings. Frias fanned six and walked one.

Reed gave the Hooks a 1-0 lead in the second. He opened with a double and later scored on Jack Mayfield's sac fly.

Jon Kemmer's lead-off triple in the fifth set up a couple more runs with Mayfield and Chan-Jong Moon netting RBIs.

Corpus Christi sends lefty Brian Holmes (4-5, 4.78) to the hill Sunday afternoon. Parker Frazier (3-0, 0.34) is slated to work for the Hounds. First pitch 2:00.
