'Ducks with 2 big frames, beats Portland 10-3

Akron, Ohio - The Akron RubberDucks (61-54) scored five in the fifth and seventh innings, beating the Portland Sea Dogs (41-74), 10-3 Sunday afternoon at Canal Park. Akron completed a three-game sweep of Portland. The Sea Dogs finished their roadtrip at 1-5.

CF Mookie Betts went 2-for-4 with a lead-off homer in the ninth and a single in the sixth . Betts was assigned to Portland before the game on a one-game MLB Rehab Assignment. 

Portland scored first off Ryan Merritt (10-7) in the fifth inning on a run-scoring fielder's choice by Oscar Tejeda. Manuel Margot (3-for-4, 3 2B) started the rally with a double and a stolen base. Merritt earned the win for Akron, firing seven innings on one run and three hits.

Akron responded in their fifth, scoring five runs off Mike McCarthy (6-6) and Mike Augliera. Yandy Diaz tied the game with a sacrifice fly. Bradley Zimmer gave the 'Ducks the lead for good with a two-run single - Carlos Moncrief followed with a two-run homer.

The RubberDucks added five runs in the seventh inning off Williams Jerez. Diaz blasted a two-run homer to right, Todd Hankins doubled home two and Eric Stamets had a run-scoring ground out.

Portland added two runs in the ninth on Betts' solo-homer and a run-scoring double by Margot.

The Sea Dogs are off on Monday and open up a six-game homestand on Tuesday, August 11th against the Erie SeaWolves (Tigers affiliate). RHP Aaron Wilkerson (0-0, 9.64) makes his second start of the season for Portland. Erie counters with righty Warwick Saupold (3-6, 4.09). Pre-Game Coverage on the U.S. Cellular Sea Dogs Radio Network begins at 6:40 PM. First pitch is 7:00 PM.
