Chiefs Shutout Dragons, 7-0

Dayton, Ohio-Four Peoria pitchers combined on a seven-hit shutout as the Chiefs defeated the Dayton Dragons 7-0 on Wednesday night. The Chiefs have won the first two games of the series at Fifth Third Field. 

Peoria jumped out to an early lead, scoring two runs in each of the first three innings to build a 6-0 advantage. The Chiefs collected nine hits including two doubles and three triples over the first three innings.

The Dragons had several chances to score but went 0 for 8 with men in scoring position and stranded 11 runners. They left runners at second or third in six of the first seven innings.

Dragons starting pitcher Junior Morillo (3-7) suffered the loss. He worked three innings, allowing six runs on nine hits with one walk and no strikeouts. Ty Sterner followed Morillo and tossed three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits with a walk and three strikeouts. Conor Krauss worked two innings, allowing an unearned run while striking out four. Jeremy Kivel pitched a scoreless ninth inning.

For the Dragons, Shed Long had his second straight two-hit night with a single and double. Paul Kronenfeld added two hits including a triple. Gavin LaValley also had two hits.

The Dragons (19-26 in the second half; 58-57 overall) host the Chiefs (30-15, 63-50) on Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in the series finale. Tyler Mahle (11-6, 2.53) will start for Dayton against Peoria's Matt Pearce (8-9, 2.78).
