66ers Drop Eighth Straight Game

San Bernardino, CA- The High Desert Mavericks downed the Inland Empire 66ers 10-3 on Friday at San Manuel Stadium. The loss marked the eighth consecutive game that the Sixers have lost. It is the club's longest losing streak since June of 2012.

High Desert scored twice against IE starter Harrison Cooney (1-12) in the first. Chris Garia reached on an infield single to open the game. It was the first of his four hits in the game and of 17 that the Mavericks would tally. The Mavericks (68-55, 31-22) had 16 singles in the game, five of which were infield hits. Evan Van Hoosier eventually knocked in Garia with the first his own four hits in the game. Van Hoosier drove in five runs. Joe Jackson followed with an RBI single to make it 2-0. Van Hoosier and Jackson repeated their efforts in the second to make it 4-0.

Trailing 5-0 in the bottom of the third, the 66ers cut the deficit to two runs as Caleb Adams walked against Mavs starter Dallas Gallant and Michael Strentz followed with a base hit. After Bo Way's sac bunt, the 66ers got on the board on Mike Fish's RBI ground out. Eric Aguilera then followed with a towering homer to right field that landed on adjacent E Street. It was Aguilera's second night with a dinger and his 17th of the year. He is now tied for the Cal League lead with 92 RBI. It was the last time that Inland Empire (58-65, 23-30) scored in the contest.

The Mavericks would go on to add three runs in the sixth and another in the seventh. Anyelo Leclerc (3-3) earned the win with 2.1 innings of scoreless relief. He allowed two hits and a two walks while fanning five. Cooney allowed six runs on 11 hits with a walk, a hit batsman and struck out six. Royce Bollinger had the Mavs lone extra-base hit with an eighth inning double. Nine-hole hitter Alberto Triunfel was the lone High Desert player to be held without a hit but he collected three walks. Garret Nuss tossed two scoreless frames out of the pen for the Sixers.
