Eflin far from an F in 3-2 loss to Curve

Zach Eflin pitched seven innings and didn't allow an earned run

Zach Eflin pitched seven quality innings and didn't allow an earned run in the Fightin Phils (73-55) 3-2 loss to the Altoona Curve (69-60). Reading led 2-1 heading into the bottom of the 8th.  

Eflin and Curve starter Steven Brault didn't allow a run through the first five innings as both gave up four hits each. Destin Hood and the Fightins broke through in the top of the sixth inning as Hood hit a RBI double off Brault that scored JP Crawford giving them a 1-0 lead. Former Fightin Sebastian Valle tied the game at 1-1 off Eflin in the bottom of the seventh inning as he hit a two-out RBI double. The run was unearned for Eflin as Crawford committed an error in the inning.  

Eflin and Brault both exited the game after seven innings. Tom Harlan came into the game in relief for Altoona in the top of the eighth inning. Brock Stassi scored on an error by shortstop Adam Frazier that gave Reading a 2-1 lead. Ryan O'Sullivan entered the game in the bottom of the eighth inning.  

Altoona scored two runs off O'Sullivan to take a 3-2 lead as Max Moroff and Jose Osuna hit back-to-back RBI singles. O'Sullivan (1-2) earned the loss. Stassi extended his hitting streak to nine games.  

The Fightin Phils and Curve wrap up their season series at People's Natural Gas Field on Wednesday night. First pitch is at 7:00 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:30 pm.
