Alcantara, Wass Shine in Sixers 5-1 Win at Stockton

August 30, 2015

Stockton, CA- Victor Alcantara set a dominant tone on the mound for the Inland Empire 66ers on Friday night and his battery-mate Wade Wass supplied offensive power in the Sixers 5-1 win over the Stockton Ports. The win snapped a four-game losing skid for the 66ers as they improved to 7-5 against the Ports on the season.

The 66ers touched up Stockton starter Dylan Covey (7-9) for two runs in the top of the first inning as Bo Way singled to open the contest. He made it to third on back-to-back passed balls and came home on Tyler Palmer's RBI groundout. The 66ers then got consecutive singles from Mike Fish, Brandon Bayardi and Andrew Daniel to make it 2-0. That was all that Covey would allow as the righty settled down and finished with six innings of six-hit work. He did not walk a man while striking out seven.

Alcantara was dazzling. The righty from Santo Domingo, DR was perfect through three innings. He allowed just three singles over a season-high eight innings of work. Alcantara surrendered just one unearned run on the night. He had one walk and struck out eight batters and improved to 7-12 on the season.

Catcher Wade Wass contributed beyond his pitch-calling on the evening. The University of Alabama product tagged a two-run homer to left in the seventh against reliever Trevor Bayless to make it 4-1 in favor of Inland Empire. He connected again in the top of the ninth with a solo shot out to right to make it 5-1. The Pensacola, FL native has three homers in six games with Inland Empire since his promotion from the Low-A Burlington Bees of the Midwest League.

Bo Way and Brandon Bayardi each had two hit games for the 66ers. Eduardo Paredes tossed a scoreless ninth for the Sixers in a non-save situation.

The series continues at 7:10 PM on Saturday. It can be heard live at 66er.com.
