Fightins fall victim to B-Mets bats

Despite loss a win for Reading tomorrow night clinches Eastern Division

The Binghamton Mets (75-61) blasted their way to victory over the Reading Fightin Phils (78-58) on Wednesday night as they won 16-4. Despite the loss, Reading can still clinch the Eastern Divison on Thursday night with a victory.  

Binghamton took a 1-0 lead off Joely Rodriguez in the top of the first inning as Josh Rodriguez hit a sacrifice fly. The B-Mets added three more runs off Rodriguez in the top of the second inning as Jared King hit a RBI single and scored on a wild pitch. LJ Mazzilli added a run by walking with the bases loaded. Four more runs came across home for Binghamton in the top of the third inning as King, Tyler Pill and Mazzilli all hit RBI singles. Josh Rodriguez added a sacrifice fly that gave the B-Mets an 8-0 lead.  

Joely Rodriguez left the game after 2 1/3 innings as he gave up eight runs. Hoby Milner came into the game in the top of the third inning with one out. Binghamton added two more runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 10-0 lead. Joe Benson and Xorge Carrillo hit solo home runs.  

Brock Stassi put the Fightin Phils on the board in the bottom of the fourth inning as he hit a two-run home run off Tyler Pill (6-0) that cut Binghamton's lead to 10-2. The home run for Stassi was his 15th of the season. The B-Mets extended their lead to 13-2 off Milner in the top of the fifth inning as Vince Belnome hit a two-run double and Jonathan Galvez hit a RBI single.  

Angelo Mora and JP Crawford hit back-to-back RBI groundouts that scored Brodie Greene and pinch-hitter Brian Pointer that cut Binghamton's lead to 13-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning. TJ Rivera hit a RBI single of Tom Windle in the top of the sixth inning that gave Binghamton a 14-4 lead.

Windle left the game after pitching two innings. Jimmy Cordero entered the game in the top of the eighth inning and retired the side. Brodie Greene pitched the top of the ninth inning. It was his first pitching appearance since July 5th against Trenton (1 IP, 2 H). Xorge Carrillo hit at two-run home run off Greene that gave Binghamton a 16-4 lead. It was Carrillo's second home run of the game.  

The Fightin Phils gave up 21 hits for the first time in a nine-inning game since August 7th of 2008 in a 15-3 loss against Erie (20 hits). Tyler Pill (6-0) earned the win for Binghamton, winning his sixth straight start. Joely Rodriguez (5-4) earned the loss.  

The Fightin Phils and Binghamton Mets will wrap up their season series on Thursday night. First pitch is at 6:35 pm. Fans can listen to the game on CBS Sports Radio 1240 AM/98-5 FM and fightins.com beginning at 6:05 pm. Fans can also watch the game on MiLB.tv at 6:35 pm.
