Legends outslug Suns 14-8

September 6, 2015

Alexis Rivera drove in four runs, Austin Bailey had three hits and three runs batted in, and Anderson Miller homered as the Lexington Legends pounded out a 14-8 win over the Hagerstown Suns Sunday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Ballpark.

Bryan Mejia had four hits in four at bats and drove in five runs for Hagerstown.

Hagerstown took the lead with a run in the top of the second inning, but the Legends responded with three in the bottom half. With one out, Chase Vallot was hit by a pitch, and with two outs, Rivera walked. Angelo Castellano followed with a single to left field, scoring Vallot to tie the game. Bailey then tripled to left center field, scoring Rivera and Castellano and giving the Legends a 3-1 lead.

A three-run third inning, which included a two-run single by Rivera, put the Legends in front 6-1, and after the Suns answered with two runs in the fourth, the Legends broke the game open with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

Bailey started the inning with a double and moved to third on a single by Brian Bien. Chad Johnson drew a walk to load the bases. After Wander Franco's single scored two runs, Vallot walked, loading the bases. Samir Duenez' single scored Johnson, and Rivera bounced a single into right field, scoring Franco and Vallot, and the Legends led 11-3.

The Legends scored three more runs in the sixth, one coming on Miller's leadoff homer.

Hagerstown rallied in the seventh. Mejia's three-run double capped a four-run inning and left the score at 14-7.

The Suns added a final run in the ninth inning.

Legends' starter Foster Griffin (4-6) worked six innings to get the win.   He is 4-1 since August 12, when he recorded his first win as a professional.

Hagerstown starter Andrew Lee (3-1) was the losing pitcher.

The Legends and Suns will meet Monday afternoon at Whitaker Bank Ballpark as both teams close out the 2015 season. Game time is 1:35 p.m.
