Captains Blank Cubs

(Eastlake, OH) -It took until the final series of the season, but the Lake County Captains picked up their first series win over the South Bend Cubs on Sunday night. Thomas Pannone and two relievers would hold the Cubs to just three singles in the game. Anthony Santander would contribute with two solo homeruns as the Captains beat the Cubs 3-0.                                                                                             

Pannone sailed through his six innings of work. He did not allow his first hit until there was one out in the top of the third inning. Pannone allowed just three singles and struck out 6 to pick up the in.                                                                                   

The Captains would break up a scoreless game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Leading off the inning, Santander connected on an opposite field homerun, just over the wall in rightfield. The homerun was Santander's ninth of the season and put the Captains up 1-0.                                                                                                       

Lake County would add to their lead in the bottom of the fifth inning. David Armendariz started the inning with a double and moved to third on a passed ball. Armendariz would come in to score on an RBI sacrifice fly by Silento Sayles for a 2-0 lead.

The Captains added their final run of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. With two outs, Santander would once again connect on a solo homerun to push the lead out to the final of 3-0.

Pannone (7-6) earned the win in 6.0 innings of work. He allowed no runs on just 3 hits. Pannone struck out 6. Caleb Hamrick (4) picked up a hold in 2.0 innings of relief. Hamrick did not allow a hit, run or a walk. He struck out 2. Luke Eubank (5) got the save with 1.0 inning of work. He did not allow a run or a hit. Eubank did not walk a batter or record a strike out.

The Captains and Cubs wrap up the 2015 season on Monday afternoon. Jordan Milbrath will get the start for the Captains with first pitch set for 1:00pm.
