Dust Devils outlast AquaSox in 16 innings
EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox and Tri-City Dust Devils combined for 34 strikeouts in a 16-inning, first-round playoff match-up as the Dust Devils took a 2-1 win on Monday, Sept. 7, at Everett Memorial Stadium.
Tri-City claims a 1-0 lead in the three-game series as it heads back to Pasco for game two and game three, if necessary.
The AquaSox and Dust Devils were neck-and-neck for almost all of the five hour and 10 minute game, with the Frogs striking first.
In the fifth, Corey Simpson scored on a fielder's choice, and Drew Jackson beat out the throw at first and took second on an error. That put the Frogs up 1-0, but Tri-City plated a run in the top of the seventh to tie it at 1-all.
That 1-1 tally would stand for nine innings more, until the Dust Devils used three no-out hits to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the 16th and held on for the win.
After walking two batters all season, Andrew Moore walked two in a three-inning start while striking out three. Ryan Horstman struck out four in two innings pitched and didn't allow a baserunner.
Games two and three can be heard live on KRKO 1380 AM and aquasox.com. Follow the AquaSox on Twitter and Facebook for road updates on the Frogs in the playoffs.
