Hooks Respond to Word of Hamilton's Passing

"The Captain" Won 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award
September 17, 2015

CORPUS CHRISTI - Hall of Fame broadcaster Milo Hamilton, who passed away Thursday in Houston at the age of 88, was revered in the Coastal Bend.

Hamilton delivered play-by-play accounts from 1985-2012 as lead announcer on the Houston Astros radio network. SportsRadio Corpus Christi (KSIX - 1230 AM•96.1 FM•103.3 FM) has broadcast Houston major league baseball in the region since the advent of the Colt .45s in 1962.

Hamilton was honored by the Hooks in 2013 as recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at that January's South Texas Winter Baseball Banquet. He was a fixture on Astros Caravan trips to Corpus Christi through the years.

Hooks senior staff members released the following statements about Hamilton's passing:

President Ken Schrom
"Our heartfelt condolences go out to Milo's family members and friends. He dearly loved the City of Corpus Christi and the Coastal Bend area. Milo was a terrific ambassador for the Astros and our sport. I'll always remember his enthusiasm and positiveness. This is a great loss for the generations of fans who grew up with Milo painting a picture of games unfolding before him as only he could."

VP/GM Michael Wood
"Milo loved Corpus Christi. He knew what makes it a great baseball town and had a special kinship with Astros fans who used to travel to Corpus Christi Day at the Astrodome back in the '80s. He was always willing to help the Hooks in any way he could; we've lost a giant in the baseball and broadcasting industries, a true friend."

Sr. Director of Communications Matt Rogers
"I had the privilege of working with Milo in Houston for eight seasons before coming to Corpus Christi. He was totally dedicated to his craft and had a wonderful sense of humor. Milo loved the organization and was a great teammate. His enthusiasm was infectious. No one could emcee a public function like he could. What a gifted man."
