Orioles acquire Trumbo & Riefenhauser

Clevenger traded, Johnson designated for assignment

The Orioles today announced that they have acquired OF/1B MARK TRUMBO and LHP C.J. RIEFENHAUSER from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for C STEVE CLEVENGER. To make room on the 40-man roster, RHP STEVE JOHNSON has been designated for assignment.

Trumbo, 29, batted .262/.310/.449 with 22 home runs and 64 RBI in 142 games between the Mariners (96 games) and the Arizona Diamondbacks (46 games) in 2015, including a .302/.358/.490 slash line over his final 74 games. He hit .289/.330/.526 and ranked tied for fifth in the majors with 11 home runs against left-handed pitching last season. Trumbo was named an American League All-Star in 2012 as a member of the Los Angeles Angels. Over 690 career Major League games, he has batted .250/.300/.458 with 131 home runs and 409 RBI. Since 2011, Trumbo ranks 14th in the Major Leagues with 131 home runs. In his career, Trumbo has averaged 31 home runs and 96 RBI per season, according to Baseball-Reference.com's 162-game average.

Riefenhauser, 25, went 4-2 with a 2.86 ERA (11 ER/34.2 IP) and 34 strikeouts over 29 games with Triple-A Durham in 2015. He has posted a 2.77 ERA (138 ER/448.0 IP) over 191 career minor league games (42 starts), while striking out 419. In 24 career Major League games, Riefenhauser has gone 1-0 with a 6.30 ERA (14 ER/20.0 IP).  

Clevenger, 29, hit .287/.314/.426 with two home runs and 15 RBI in 30 games for the Orioles in 2015.

Johnson, 28, posted a 10.13 ERA (6 ER/5.1 IP) in six games for the Orioles last season.
