Rainiers Rout Isotopes In Series Finale, 13-1

Outfielder Boog Powell notches three hits, scores three runs

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (3-1) collected 15 hits on the way to a 13-1 rout of the Albuquerque Isotopes (1-3) on Sunday afternoon at Cheney Stadium.

Every member of the Rainiers starting lineup recorded a hit in the game, with outfielders Boog Powell (3x5) and Stefen Romero (2x4) leading the way with a combined five runs scored and five RBI.

Tacoma starting pitcher Adrian Sampson earned his first win of the year with 6.0 innings of work, holding the Isotopes scoreless on just one hit with two walks and two strikeouts. From the second to sixth innings, Sampson retired 13 consecutive Albuquerque batters, with only four balls leaving the infield.

The Rainiers jumped on Albuquerque early with four runs in the first inning on RBI singles from infielder Efren Navarro and catcher Mike Zunino and a two-run double from infielder Ed Lucas.

With Tacoma already holding a 6-0 lead, Romero sent out the club's first home run of the season over the left centerfield wall to extend the Rainiers lead to 8-0.

Outfielder Daniel Robertson's two-run triple to the left centerfield gap highlighted a five-run outburst from the Rainiers in the fifth inning, with the club batting around the order.

The Isotopes lone run came in the top of the seventh inning, when Jordan Patterson led off the frame with a single and came around to score three batters later on an RBI groundout from Tim Smalling.

Justin De Fratus made his Rainiers debut in relief of Sampson, working the seventh and eighth innings while surrendering one run on three hits. Mayckol Guaipe sealed the 13-1 victory with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Rainiers open a four-game set with the El Paso Chihuahuas tomorrow, Monday, April 11 with a first pitch scheduled for 6:05 p.m. PT. Tacoma will send right-hander Donn Roach (0-0, -.--) to the mound, while El Paso is expected to counter with righty Greg Reynolds (0-0, -.--).
