Memphis Loses In 10-Inning Battle to New Orleans

McGuire Looks To Get First Win As Starter In Tomorrow's Game
April 29, 2016

The Memphis Redbirds (8-11) came up just short in their game Thursday night on the road against the New Orleans Zephyrs (10-11), losing 2-1 in extra innings.

Both teams had strong performances all game from their starters and relievers as both pitching staffs gave up just six hits each. Arturo Reyes had a good outing on the mound in his third start of the season and his second career start against New Orleans tonight. He threw six innings and gave up just one run on three hits and struck out four. Two of those hits and his one run given up were all in the first inning.

Carlos Peguero had a good night at the plate going 2-for-5 and picking up his third double of the season and second   stolen base.  Peguero was the only Redbird to cross home plate tonight on a single hit to center field by Dean Anna. Anna got his fourth RBI of the season to help tie the game at 1-1. This hit helped Anna snap his seven game span without a hit.

Mike OhlmanCharlie Tilson and Greg Garcia each got a hit tonight but the Redbirds were unable to capitalize, leaving 19 runners on base.

Former Redbird Xavier Scruggs hit the game winning walk-off single in the bottom of the tenth inning, off reliever Miguel Socolovich, to lift the Zephyrs past the Redbirds.

Memphis looks to bounce back and even the series with a win in their next game against New Orleans on Friday night.  Deck McGuire is set to make his fifth start this season against opposing pitcher Ivan Pineyro.  The Redbirds return to Memphis on Monday to start a four game homestand against the Iowa Cubs.
