Bats walk-off with win over Norfolk

Waldrop homers in bottom of ninth
May 2, 2016

Louisville's Kyle Waldrop broke a scoreless tie with a home run in the bottom of the ninth, lifting the Bats to a 1-0 win over Norfolk Monday night from Slugger Field.

With two outs in the ninth, Waldrop hit a 1-0 pitch off of Edgar Olmos (1-1) just over the right field wall to give the Bats the series-opening win. It was the fourth home run of the season for Waldrop - three of which have come against Norfolk.

David Hale was impressive in his second start with the Tides, as he yielded just two hits and two walks over four shutout innings of work. Andy Oliver followed Hale with three shutout innings before giving way to Pedro Beato, who worked a scoreless inning to lower his season ERA to 0.77.

Paul Janish singled and walked in the contest, raising his average to .324. Norfolk managed just three hits in the contest and was shutout for the seventh time this season.

The two clubs continue their three-game set on Tuesday, with first pitch set for 7:05. Ariel Miranda gets the start for Norfolk, with airtime on ESPN Radio slated for 6:50 pm.
