May 4, 2016

ASHEVILLE, NC - Trey Killian threw six scoreless innings to lead Asheville to a 2-0 win over the BlueClaws on Wednesday night at McCormick Field in the first game of their three-game series.

The Tourists (11-13) take the first of the three game series from the BlueClaws (7-18), who had won three of four in their weekend series with Greenville.

Killian, who improved to 2-2 on the year, bested BlueClaws starter Tyler Gilbert. Gilbert, who fell to 0-3, gave up two runs over a career-long seven innings in taking the loss.

Asheville got their runs in the sixth, on an RBI double by Brian Mundell, and in seventh, on a SAC fly by Jonathan Piron.

The BlueClaws, meanwhile, left seven on base, including two each in the fourth and eighth innings.

Jan Hernandez had three of the six BlueClaws hits. Brendan Rodgers went 3-4 for Asheville, and all three of his hits were doubles.

The series in Asheville continues on Thursday night at 7:05. RHP Shane Watson (1-1) starts for Lakewood against LHP Dylan Craig (0-0).
