Magic Mike: Kelly wows, Storm shutout SJ

Offense ignites with 14 hits for 7-0 Mother's Day triumph
May 8, 2016

SAN JOSE - The Lake Elsinore Storm returned to the win column Sunday behind a masterful effort from starter Michael Kelly, who tamed the San Jose Giants over seven shutout innings en route to a 7-0 Storm win on Mother's Day at Municipal Stadium.

A first inning run turned out to be the only offense Lake Elsinore would need. Franchy Cordero doubled with two outs then scored after a caught stealing error by pitcher Mark Reyes (L, 2-1), putting The Eyes up 1-0.

Kelly (W, 1-3) took over from there. The 23-year old scattered four hits, struck out seven and walked none over seven scoreless frames to earn his first-career California League win.

Lake Elsinore added five runs in the seventh - three of which came off the bat of Luis Tejada, who homered for the second time this season - and a run in the ninth to plate their most runs (seven) of the road trip.

Trevor Seidenberger and Colby Blueberg each worked an inning of relief in support of Kelly to secure a 7-0 victory.
