Fightins hammer B-Mets in 9-0 shutout

Reading posts a new-season high with 17 hits

The Fightin Phils (21-11) lineup recorded 17 hits as they shutout in the Binghamton Mets (14-15) 9-0 on Tuesday morning. Ben Lively (5-0) pitched six shutout innings and every Fightins hitter had at least one hit.  

Reading led off the bottom of the second inning with five-consecutive singles off B-Mets starter Casey Delgado (0-1). Dylan Cozens registered the first single but proceeded to get thrown out trying to steal second-base. Jesmuel Valentin hit the second single then moved to third base on a single from Aaron Brown. Harold Martinez hit a RBI single to score Valentin and give Reading a 1-0 lead.

The Fightin Phils scored four runs off Delgado in the bottom of the fourth to extend their lead to 5-0. Brown led off the inning with a double then moved to third base on a single by Martinez. Logan Moore hit a RBI single to score Brown KC Serna reached on a fielder's choice that scored Martinez and J.P. Crawford hit a double that scored Serna. Rhys Hoskins added the final run of the inning with a RBI single.

Lively left the game after six shutout innings as he gave up four hits with one walk and two strikeouts. Reading scored three more runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to take an 8-0 lead. Martinez hit a two-run double off reliever Kelly Secreast and Crawford walked with the bases loaded.

Dylan Cozens hit a solo home run in the bottom of the eighth inning off Michael Hepple. The home run for Cozens was his eighth of the season. Michael Mariot pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief while Mark Leiter Jr. pitched two scoreless innings in his season debut.  

Harold Martinez finished the day going 4-for-4 with three RBI. Logan Moore went 3-for-4 with one RBI. Hoskins, Cozens, Valentin and Brown all recorded two hits.
