Fisher Finishes Frisco

Teams Meet Friday in 5:30 Doubleheader
May 12, 2016

CORPUS CHRISTI - Derek Fisher homered for the third time in five plate appearances as Corpus Christi defeated Frisco 6-5 in walk-off fashion Thursday at Whataburger Field before 4,276.

Three pitches into the bottom of the ninth, Fisher drove a 1-1 Jose LeClerc (0-5) change-up 404 feet to right field.

Frisco knotted the score by putting up three ninth-inning runs off Aaron West as the first five batters singled. The last man he faced, Lewis Brinson, dumped a two-run single into right.

At that point, Corpus Christi (18-15) went back to the bullpen, summoning Brendan McCurry (1-1). Ronald Guzman produced a run-scoring hit before McCurry got a liner off the bat of Alex Burg to double up Guzman and an inning-ending comebacker from Joe Jackson.

Frisco (23-9) blustered in the first but came away with nothing. Isiah Kiner-Falefa stroked a double down the left-field line and Ryan Cordell reached on a bunt single, but they were stuck at third and second, respectively, when Cy Sneed whiffed Burg. Sneed retired Brinson on a comebacker and got Guzman to pop up.

RoughRiders starter Connor Sadzeck breezed through the first three innings, retiring the Hooks lineup in order while throwing just 26 pitches. Things were different during the fourth vs. the first three hitters. Teoscar Hernandez's lead-off single, an Alex Bregman double off the wall in left, and Fisher's two-run homer the same direction moved Corpus Christi up 3-0.

Sneed scattered three hits over the balance of his five shutout frames, replaced by Edison Frias after 70 pitches (48 strikes). The former Dallas Baptist Patriot fanned five.

Frisco then touched Frias for a run, Garrett Weber's two-out single plating Brinson (lead-off walk).

Evan Gattis' fourth Double-A home run of 2016 extended the Corpus Christi advantage to 5-1 in the sixth, Hernandez at the keystone following a walk and stolen base. Frisco returned the deficit to three with a seventh-inning singleton, Kiner-Falefa coming around on a walk, Cordell's double, and a Frias wild pitch.

Sadzeck lasted seven innings and accrued four hits, a walk and seven strikeouts over 95 pitches (60).
