Yard Goats Lose Slugfest in New Hampshire 13-7

Manchester, NH- The Hartford Yard Goats (26-16) were defeated by the New Hampshire Fisher Cats (20-21) by the score of 13-7 at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium on Sunday afternoon in Manchester. The win helped the Fisher Cats avoid a 3-game sweep and ended Hartford's 3-game win streak. New Hampshire had a 9-2 lead in the 5th inning but the Yard Goats made a run and batted the potential tying run in the 7th inning. The two clubs combined to score 20 runs on 31 hits.      

The Fisher Cats scored runs in each of the first four innings off Hartford starter Kyle Freeland. Jon Berti began the first inning with a triple to center field, and scored on Rowdy Tellez' infield grounder, putting New Hampshire ahead 1-0. 

New Hampshire added to its lead in the second on an RBI single by Christian Lopes and a 2-out 2-run single by Jon Berti, making it 3-0. Dwight Smith Jr. blasted a 2-run home run in the third inning and the Fisher Cats led 6-0 after three frames. 

Hartford got on the board in the 4th inning on Ryan McMahon's 2-run home run to right centerfield, making it a 6-2 game. It was McMahon's second straight homer game. 

The Fisher Cats answered with three runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 9-2 and knocked Freeland from the game. Ian Parmley led off with an infield hit and took second base on a throwing error by the pitcher and scored on Shane Opitz single. Then Berti and Flores followed with RBI hits to chase Freeland from the game. It was 9-2 New Hampshire after four innings. 

The Yard Goats rallied for three runs in the 5th inning, all with two out. Pat Valaika, David Dahl and Ryan McMahon each had RBI hits pulling the Yard Goats within four runs at 9-5. After the Fisher Cats got a run in the bottom of 5th, Hartford scored single runs in the 6th and 7th innings to make it 10-7. Harford batted the potential tying run in the 7th inning but that is as close as the Yard Goats would come. New Hampshire scored three more in the bottom of the 7th.     

The Yard Goats open a 3-game series against the Bowie BaySox tomorrow evening at Dodd Stadium in Norwich at 6:05 PM. The game will be broadcast live on News Radio 1410 WPO0P.
