Fernando Romero named MWL Pitcher of the Week

Second Kernel to earn MWL Weekly honors

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Midwest League and MiLB.com announced today that Kernels pitcher Fernando Romero has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the period ending May 22nd.

Romero made his return to the mound after over a year's absence due to Tommy John surgery, with five no-hit innings vs. Quad Cities on May 20th striking out four and walking no one. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on November 4, 2011.

South Bend outfielder Eloy Jimenez was named the Midwest League Player of the Week for the same period.

Romero is the second Kernel this season to receive Midwest League weekly honors, joining A.J. Murray who was named the MWL Player of the Week on May 16th.

The Kernels begin a three game commuter series to Burlington, May 24-26. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 27th and open a four game series against Wisconsin.

The Cedar Rapids Kernels are the Midwest League affiliate of the Minnesota Twins and will host the 2016 MWL All-Star Game, presented by GO Cedar Rapids, on June 21st.
