Fernando Romero named MWL Pitcher of the Week

Cedar Rapids, IA - The Midwest League and MiLB.com announced today that Kernels pitcher Fernando Romero has been named the Midwest League Pitcher of the Week for the period ending May 22^nd.

Romero made his return to the mound after over a year's absence due to Tommy John surgery, with five no-hit innings vs. Quad Cities on May 20^th striking out four and walking no one. He was signed by the Twins as a non-drafted free agent on November 4, 2011.

South Bend outfielder Eloy Jimenez was named the Midwest League Player of the Week for the same period.

Romero is the second Kernel this season to receive Midwest League weekly honors, joining A.J. Murray who was named the MWL Player of the Week on May 16^th.

The Kernels begin a three game commuter series to Burlington, May 24-26. They return to Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday, May 27^th and open a four game series against Wisconsin.
