Rainiers Winning Streak Snapped In Round Rock

Stefen Romero goes 1-for-4, extends on-base streak to 14 games

ROUND ROCK, Texas. - The Tacoma Rainiers (27-17) saw their six-game winning streak end with a 4-3 loss to the Round Rock Express (24-19) on Monday night at Dell Diamond.

Rainiers starting pitcher Adrian Sampson (4-3) tossed 6.0 innings while allowing four runs on nine hits - he struck out four, walked one, surrendered one home run, and took his third loss of the year.

Jonathan Aro and Kraig Sitton held Round Rock scoreless on one hit over the final two frames - the relief duo combined for two strikeouts.

Round Rock jumped out to an early lead with three runs in the bottom of the second inning. A pair of singles to open the frame set up a three-run home run from Ike Davis, giving the Express a 3-0 edge.

Patrick Cantwell singled home Ryan Strausborger in the bottom of the fourth inning to create Round Rock's final run, expanding their lead to 4-0.

The Rainiers rallied for a pair of runs in the top of the sixth inning to cut the Express lead in half at 4-2. Shortstop Luis Sardinas singled with one out and moved to third on a steal of second and a wild pitch. Designated hitter Stefen Romero followed with an RBI single, advanced to third on a double from first baseman Efren Navarro, and scored on a sacrifice fly from catcher Mike Zunino.

A Mike Baxter single and a hit batter set up the Rainiers final effort in the bottom of the ninth. Left fielder Dario Pizzano lined an RBI single to create the final margin of 4-3.

Tacoma and Round Rock continue their series tomorrow, Tuesday, May 24 with a first pitch scheduled for 5:05 p.m. PT. Rainiers right-hander Donn Roach (3-2, 6.43) and Express righty Chi Chi Gonzalez (1-4, 6.12) are set to square off.
