Rainiers Blank Aces For 2-0 Victory

Efren Navarro and Zach Shank both smack solo home runs

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (35-25) shutout the Reno Aces (31-29) 2-0, in a game which featured a two-hour and 32-minute rain delay, on Friday night Cheney Stadium.

 

Starting pitcher Cody Martin held the Aces scoreless on four hits over 4.0 innings of work - he issued no walks and struck out four.

 

Paul Fry, Kraig Sitton, and Blake Parker combined to work the final 6.0 innings for Tacoma, holding Reno scoreless while only allowing two hits and struck out seven. Parker earned his 10th save of the season after working a perfect ninth inning.

 

The Rainiers offense was led by first baseman Efren Navarro (1x2) and second baseman Zach Shank (1x2) who both notched solo home runs.

 

Tacoma jumped out to an early lead in the bottom of the second inning when Navarro smashed a one-out solo home run over the right field fence, giving the Rainiers the 1-0 advantage.

 

Shank launched a solo home run over the left-center field wall in the bottom of the fifth inning, pushing the Rainiers lead to 2-0.

 

The game was sent into a two-hour and 32-minute rain delay at the end of the fifth inning with the Rainiers leading by two runs.

 

Tacoma lefty Brad Mills (2-1, 3.18) and Las Vegas right-hander Kyle Drabek (3-4, 5.93) will square off as the Rainiers and Aces continue their series tomorrow, Saturday, June 10. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 p.m. PT.
