Indians End Three Game Skid, Defeat Gwinnett 8-2

INDIANAPOLIS (June 27, 2016) - The Indians broke out of their offensive slump accruing 14 hits en route to a convincing 8-2 win over Gwinnett, taking the first game of the series at Victory Field on Monday.

Indianapolis (41-36) got off to a blistering start with five runs in the first inning. Austin Meadows doubled off the center field wall to begin the onslaught as all nine starters reached the batter's box in the inning.

Gwinnett (34-44) ended Tyler Glasnow's 20 consecutive inning shutout streak with a two-out double in the top of the first.

Austin Meadows fell a home run shy of hitting for the cycle, notching a single in the second inning and belting a triple in the fourth inning to go along with his leadoff double to begin the game.

Willy Garcia scored off a Jacob Stallings teardrop single over first base in the fifth inning to extend the Indians lead to 7-1.

The Braves scored a run off back-to-back doubles in the sixth to inch closer. Later in the inning, Reid Brignac, fresh off his RBI double, was tagged out by Tyler Glasnow attempting to steal home on an errant pitch.

Tyler Glasnow struck out five, giving up four hits and two earned runs in six solid innings of work.

Any chance of a comeback in the following inning was snuffed out by a 6-3 Gift Ngoepe double play.

Max Moroff homered in the eighth inning for a second consecutive game to create a larger cushion for Indians at 8-2.

Glasnow (7-2) earned his seventh win of the season while Manny Banuelos (0-2) will have to wait another day to acquire his first win.

Victory Field and the Tribe will host Gwinnett in the second of the three game series beginning Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
