WV holds Legends to three hits in 5-1 win

June 29, 2016

West Virginia starter Dario Agrazal and reliever Seth McGarry limited the Lexington Legends to three hits as the Power claimed a 5-1 win Wednesday night in Charleston.

West Virginia took the lead with two runs in the bottom of the first inning. After Mitchell Tolman drew a leadoff walk, Logan Ratledge struck out, but a wild pitch on strike three allowed Tolman to advance to second base, and he moved to third on a throwing error by catcher Michael Hill. A double by Ke'Bryan Hayes brought Tolman home. Hayes moved to third on a single by Carlos Munoz and scored on a wild pitch by Legends starter Scott Blewett.

The Legends scored in the fourth inning. Anderson Miller led off with a single, took second on a wild pitch, and moved to third after Brandon Dulin flied out to right field. Miller scored on a sacrifice fly by Amalani Fukofuka.

Daniel Arribas led off the bottom of the sixth with a home run, giving the Power a 3-1 lead.

The Power added two runs in the eighth inning, when the Legends committed two of their six errors. Logan Hill led off the inning with a single, and went to second as John Bormann reached first on an error by shortstop Marten Gasparini. A sacrifice by Tyler Filliben moved the runners to second and third. After Tolman was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Hill scored as Ratledge grounded into a force play at second base, and when Dulin, the first baseman, was unable to handle Gasparini's throw from second, Bormann also scored.

Agrazal (5-6) was the winning pitcher. He allowed three hits and one run in seven innings. McGarry allowed no runs and no hits in the last two innings and picked up his third save.

Blewett (3-8) took the loss. He allowed four hits and two runs in four and two-thirds innings.

West Virginia won two games out of three in the series.

The Legends will return home to begin a four-game series with the Rome Braves Thursday night at Whitaker Bank Ballpark. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
