June 30, 2016

A home run by Brandon Dulin in the seventh inning broke a 4-4 tie, and the Lexington Legends went on to a 5-4 win over the Rome Braves in front of 6,191 fans at Whitaker Bank Ballpark Thursday night.

The Legends jumped out to a 4-0 lead in the first inning. With one out, D.J. Burt walked and stole second base. After Anderson Miller walked, Dulin singled, scoring Burt.   Amalani Fukofuka struck out, but Xavier Fernandez followed with a three-run homer, his fifth home run of the season.

Rome was scoreless until Carlos Castro hit a solo homer with two outs in the fourth inning.

The Braves added two more runs in the fifth.   Leudys Baez led off the inning with a home run. With one out, Ray-Patrick Didder doubled down the left field line. He moved to third on a balk and scored on a ground out by Luke Dykstra.

Castro's second home run of the game tied the score in the sixth, and it remained 4-4 until Dulin hit one over the wall in right field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh.

Reid Redman (1-0), who relieved starter Nolan Watson after five innings, picked up the victory. He worked two innings in relief, as did Gabe Cramer, who earned his first save after allowing one hit and no runs in the eighth and ninth.

Rome reliever Dalton Geekie (2-3), who entered the game in the seventh, took the loss.

Game two of the four-game series will be played Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
