Hooks Tame Tulsa

July 12, 2016

TULSA - Corpus Christi parlayed a three-run second and a strong start by Keegan Yuhl into a series victory Monday night, besting the Drillers 5-1 at ONEOK Field.

The Hooks (10-8, 57-31), who own the best road record in Minor League Baseball at 34-13, have not lost a series away from Whataburger Field since July 2015.

Lisalverto Bonilla (0-1) allowed the first four to reach in the second. Chase McDonald opened with a double while Nick Tanielu, Conrad Gregor and Alejandro Garcia registered singles. RBIs by Gregor and Garcia supplemented a sac fly off the bat of Roberto Pena, and staked the Hooks to a 3-0 advantage.

Yuhl (8-2), who worked out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam in the first, scattered one run, four hits and three walks over five innings. The 24-year-old right-hander is now tied for second in the Texas League in victories and lowered his ERA to a circuit best 2.55.

McDonald, Gregor and Garcia each had two hits, including Gregor's RBI double in the sixth.

Derek Fisher doubled off Jordan Schafer to begin the eighth. Fisher stole third and scored on a Tanielu grounder for a four-run Hooks bulge.

Albert Minnis penned three perfect innings, and Chris Cotton, thanks to a game-ending double play, faced three in the ninth.

Corpus Christi is off Tuesday before opening a four-game homestand Wednesday night. Cy Sneed (4-2, 3.68) gets the ball for the Hooks in the opener. First pitch is 7:05. Click here for a rundown of the happenings at Whataburger Field.
