Bob Brooks Celebration of Life - July 27th

Cedar Rapids, IA - A Celebration of Life, in recognition of the life and broadcasting career of Bob Brooks, will be hosted by the Cedar Rapids Kernels on Wednesday, July 27th at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Brooks passed away on June 25th at the age of 89.

Bob was a long-time member of the Cedar Rapids Baseball Club's Board of Directors, carrying on a legacy started by his father, Ira and carried forward by his son, Rob. Bob was inducted into the Cedar Rapids Baseball Hall of Fame and is a member of the Kinnick Stadium media 'Wall of Fame'.

"We are honored to host Bob's Celebration of Life Service and are appreciative of the Brooks' family support of the Cedar Rapids Ball Club dating back to Bob's father Ira," said Greg Seyfer, President of the Cedar Rapids Ball Club's Board of Directors.

Brooks was a native of Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He earned his journalism degree from the University of Iowa in 1948 and began his broadcasting career with KCRG radio in 1949. Over the years, Bob worked for KHAK and ended his career as the sports director for KMRY.

Among his many broadcasting honors, Brooks was a 10-time winner of the Iowa Sportscaster of the Year, the Chris Schenkel Award from the National College Football Foundation, and the Learfield Sports award for serving as a voice of the Hawkeyes for 50 years.

Bob is survived by his wife, Susie, son Rob (Sue) and grandsons Peter and Blair. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jane. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Bob Brooks Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank.

The Celebration of Life begins at 5:00 PM on Wednesday, July 27th. The program begins at 5:45 PM.
