Storm sweep 'Hide, extend winning streak

Lake Elsinore downs Visalia 6-3 with stout pitching and VanMeter

LAKE ELSINORE - The Lake Elsinore Storm completed a three-game sweep of the Visalia Rawhide Friday, downing the Arizona Diamondbacks affiliate 6-3 in front of 5,721 at The Diamond.

After a scoreless first and second, the Storm took an early lead in the third. Edwin Moreneo doubled to begin the frame and scored when Josh VanMeter singled him home two batters later.

Visalia tied it in the top of the fifth, but VanMeter provided some additional pop for the Storm offense in the bottom of the inning. The Fort Wayne, Indiana native swatted his team-best twelfth home run of the season with a man on and one out to make it 3-1, a line drive over the 36-foot high wall in right field that gave The Eyes a lead they wouldn't relinquish.

Houston native Zech Lemond turned in his second-consecutive commanding start. The former Rice Owl went seven innings, allowed one run on six hits, struck out three and didn't walk a batter.

A three-run seventh added to the Lake Elsinore advantage and the Storm went on to win 6-3.

With the victory, the Storm have now won four in a row are are 7-3 in their last ten games.

The San Diego Padres affiliate will hit the road Saturday for the first of four with the Inland Empire 66ers in San Bernardino. Enyel De Los Santos will oppose Alex Klonowski. First pitch is slated for 7:05pm.
