Sea Dogs Outlast Rain & Thunder, Win 5-2

McAvoy Goes the Distance in Rain Shortened Gaem

Portland, Maine- Kevin McAvoy tied a career-high with seven innings and allowed just two hits and the Sea Dogs (37-64) defeated the Trenton Thunder (62-40) 5-2 in a rain-shortened seven-inning game on Monday night at Hadlock Field.
 
McAvoy (W, 7-5) was credited with a complete game in the victory, his first as a professional.
 
Trenton scored the game's first run in the top of the third on an RBI single by Vince Conde to score Lane Adams. Two batters later Dustin Fowler singled in Conde to make it 2-0 Trenton.
 
The Sea Dogs answered right back in the bottom of the inning. With the bases loaded and nobody out, Cole Sturgeon scored on an RBI fielder's choice by Mauricio Dubon, who beat out a potential double play. Andrew Benintendi followed with a two-run triple on a misplayed ball by Fowler in center field. Then Benintendi scored on an error by shortstop Tyler Wade to allow Nate Freiman to reach base.
 
Trenton starter Will Carter (L, 0-1) was making his Double-A debut and allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits in five innings, walking one and striking out three.
 
Portland added their fifth run in the sixth inning on a two-out, RBI double by Cole Sturgeon to score Cody Decker.

The series continues Tuesday night at Hadlock Field, first pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM. RHP Jacob Dahlstrand (1-1, 4.91) is scheduled to start for Portland against RHP Chance Adams (5-0, 2.03) for Trenton. Tickets can be purchased online at seadogs.com or by phone at 207-879-9500.
