RiverDogs blank Legends on one hit, 1-0

July 28, 2016

Luis Cedeno and Eduardo Rivera teamed up for a one-hit shutout as the Charleston RiverDogs blanked the Lexington Legends 1-0 Thursday night in Charleston.

The game was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning. Charleston's Ricardo Ferreira led off with an infield single against Legends reliever Sam Lewis.   Ferreira moved to second on a balk and to third on a ground out before scoring the game's only run on a wild pitch.

The Legends got their only hit in the seventh inning, and did not have a baserunner through the first six. After D.J. Burt walked to lead off the seventh, Roman Collins grounded a single to right field.   Michael Hill walked, loading the bases with no outs, but Chase Vallot flied out to short left field, Brandon Dulin grounded into a force play at home plate, and Amalani Fukofuka grounded into a force play at third base to end the inning.

Cedeno, the Charleston starter, got the win. He worked the first seven innings. He walked two batters and struck out nine. Rivera earned his first save with two innings of hitless relief.

Lewis (0-1), who pitched the sixth and seventh innings, was the losing pitcher. Lexington starter Gerson Garabito pitched the first five innings and allowed three hits and no runs. Garabito, who had won his last two starts, has now pitched 13 consecutive scoreless innings.

Daniel Concepcion worked the eighth inning for Lexington and retired the side in order.

Game two of the four-game series will be played Friday night. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m.
