Memphis Falters in Finale against Oklahoma City

Redbirds Lose Three of Four to Dodgers

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - The Memphis Redbirds (50-55) ended an eight-game homestand with a 9-3 loss to the Oklahoma City Dodgers (Triple-A Dodgers) (61-44) after a 1:35 rain delay Friday night at AutoZone Park.      

David Washington was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, two runs scored and two RBI. He has homered in three of the last five games and 25 times on the season between Memphis and Double-A Springfield, which leads the St. Louis Cardinals organization and was tied for sixth in all of minor league baseball entering the day. Efren Navarro also had two hits, one day after his 11-game hitting streak was snapped.

The Redbirds had seven hits on the night but just one after Washington's sixth-inning home run. The Redbirds grounded into four double plays, which was one shy of tying the single-game franchise record.

Mike Mayers allowed five runs on six hits in 5.0 innings in his first start back from starting for the Cardinals Sunday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers. After John Brebbia gave up four runs in 1.1 innings of relief, Corey Littrell and Juan Gonzalez did not allow a run in the final 2.2 innings.

Oklahoma City's Rob Segedin was a home run shy of the cycle, which would have been the third in 16 games against the Redbirds after it took 2,666 games for the first to occur against Memphis.

After a quick jaunt to Round Rock for four games Saturday-Tuesday, Memphis is back at AutoZone Park to host the Omaha Royals (Triple-A Royals) Wednesday through next Saturday. The upcoming homestand features College Night on Thursday, and a Redbirds Adult Pullover gate giveaway, a Superhero Cape Theme Ticket and postgame fireworks on Saturday.
