Tides rally to take Sunday win, series victory

Four-run seventh propels Norfolk past Tribe
July 31, 2016

Norfolk plated four runs in the seventh inning to rally past the Indianapolis Indians 4-1 Sunday afternoon at Victory Field.

Trailing 1-0, the Tides sent nine men to the plate in the decisive frame to take their first lead of the game. Christian Walker, L.J. Hoes, Corban Joseph and Austin Wynns each had an RBI in the inning as Norfolk took the rubber match of the three-game set.

Hoes had two hits to help pace Norfolk's 10-hit attack, while Dariel Alvarez added two hits to extend his hitting streak to 16 games. Alvarez' 16-game streak is the longest by a Tides player this year and is just two games shy of the longest by a player in the International League this season.

Norfolk starter Andy Oliver allowed one run on five hits over five innings of work before giving way to the bullpen, which turned in four shutout inings of relief. Richard Rodriguez (6-1), Oliver Drake and Jason Stoffel helped wrap up the win, with Stoffel working the ninth to earn his eighth save of the season.

With the win, Norfolk has now won or split each of its last three series. The Tides have won six of their last eight games.

The Tides return to Harbor Park on Monday night, with first pitch against Durham slated for 7:05. David Hale (1-6, 5.71) gets the start for Norfolk and will be opposed by left-hander Justin Marks (4-9, 3.92).
