Wren, Suter Earn July Honors

The Colorado Springs Sky Sox have announced that left-handed pitcher Brent Suter was named Pitcher of the Month and outfielder Kyle Wren was named Player of the Month for their strong play during the month of July.

Brent Suter, 26, was dominant on the mound for Colorado Springs in July. The lefty pitched in six games, including three starts. In 21.2 innings, Suter allowed just four runs, three earned, for an ERA of 1.25 in the month. Over that time, he issued three walks while striking out 20 batters. He started the month with two scoreless relief innings in Oklahoma City on July 4. After a solid start against the I-Cubs on July 8, Suter pitched two more scoreless relief innings, not allowing a run in 2.1 total innings between July 16-18. On July 22, Suter was at his best, not allowing an earned run while striking out four in six scoreless innings to earn the win as the Sky Sox beat Round Rock at Security Service Field. In his final appearance of the month, Suter had his longest appearance of the season, pitching 6.2 strong innings while striking out a season-high eight in Nashville. 

Since being recalled from Double-A Biloxi on June 4, outfielder Kyle Wren, 25, has been one of the Sky Sox best players. That trend continued in July. His .340 average, 34 hits, 21 runs scored, and .470 on base percentage led all Sky Sox players who played in at least 20 games during the month. Wren also totaled six doubles, two triples, 14 runs batted in, and 19 walks. Since joining the Sky Sox, he has been a mainstay at the top of the lineup. The highlight for Wren came on July 25, when he went 5-for-5 with a walk and three runs scored in the Sky Sox 6-5 win over Round Rock at Security Service Field. Wren also hit his first career Triple-A home run on July 18 in Reno, a solo shot to lead off the game for the Sky Sox.

Wren joins June winner Will Middlebrooks, May winners Nate Orf and Manny Pina, as well as April winner Orlando Arcia as the 2016 Sky Sox Players of the Month.

As Pitcher of the Month for the second consecutive month, Suter joins April winner Jacob Barnes and May winner Austin Ross as 2016 Sky Sox Pitchers of the Month.
