Hyde Heady in Extras

August 6, 2016

MIDLAND - A two-out single by Mott Hyde in the 11th inning Friday night plated the pivotal run as Corpus Christi edged Midland 3-2 at Security Bank Ballpark.

With the score level at 1, Hype opened the 10th with a double into the right-field corner against RockHounds closer Bobby Wahl. Antonio Nunez then pushed a bunt to the crashing Viosergy Rosa whose throw to first was low and skipped past Yairo Munoz covering first base. Hyde cruised home on the play.

Trailing 2-1, Tyler Marincov scratched an infield hit to begin the home half. Ryan Thompson (2-1) retired the next two batters before Munoz ripped a triple into the right-field alley, squaring the score.

James Ramsay led off the 11th and smacked an 0-2 Sam Bragg pitch into the left-field corner for a double. Two outs later, Hyde lined a base hit into left and Ramsay scored from second, beating J.P. Sportman's throw home with a feet-first slide.

Hyde is 8-for-16 at the plate in his last four games.

Eric Peterson induced a groundout and struck out a pair to record his second save. Thanks to an error and a wild pitch, the tying run was stranded at second base.

Midland (28-14, 61-51) left 13 men on the night, including the bases-loaded twice.

Cy Sneed scattered five hits over six innings of work. The run against him scored in the fifth and was unearned. Kevin Comer turned in two scoreless innings of relief.

The Hooks (20-22, 67-45) notched their first marker when Ramon Laureano opened the game with a home run. His second Double-A blast cleared the 15-foot wall in left field.

Heath Fillmyer settled in, holding Corpus Christi to three singles over his final four frames.

Midland relievers Trey Cochran-Gil and Kyle Finnegan teamed for three shutout innings.

Trent Thornton (1-0, 2.25) takes the hill for Corpus Christi Saturday night. The RockHounds turn to the tandem of Corey Walter (3-2, 2.17) and Ben Bracewell (6-1, 1.65). First pitch 7:00.
