AutoZone Park Record Crowd Sees Saturday Night Baseball in Memphis

11,041 Jams the Downtown Ballpark; Redbirds Fall 2-1
August 27, 2016

MEMPHIS, Tennessee - An AutoZone Park record crowd of 11,041 was on-hand Saturday night to see the Memphis Redbirds play the Nashville Sounds (Triple-A Athletics), with the Sounds winning a tight 2-1 contest.

One day after the 10 millionth fan since AutoZone Park opened in 2000 entered the gates, Saturday's crowd is the largest since the ballpark renovations that occurred prior to the 2015 season. It even topped 10,270 at an exhibition game against the St. Louis Cardinals prior to the 2015 campaign.

On his birthday Saturday night, Patrick Wisdom was 2-for-4 with a home run and a double, and Efren Navarro extended his hitting streak to seven games with a 2-for-4 showing.

Kurt Heyer was solid through 5.0 innings, scattering seven hits and giving up two runs, and the Memphis bullpen combined for 4.0 shutout innings with Ryan Sherriff, John Brebbia and Dean Kiekhefer taking the mound.

Nashville led 1-0 after the top of the second before Wisdom tied the game with a solo shot to left field in the third. The Sounds scored the eventual game-winner in the sixth and finished the game with 11 hits.

Memphis was 0-for-7 with runners in scoring position and left six runners on base.

The game was Memphis' 44th one-run game this season, which is second-most in the Pacific Coast League.

The Redbirds play their final game this season at AutoZone Park tomorrow afternoon at 2:05 (CT). It is Fan Appreciation Day, with all fans receiving a ticket voucher for a game in 2017, and it is also Bark In The Park with fans purchasing a Theme Ticket receiving a dog leash holder picture frame and able to bring their dogs into the stadium.

The first 1,500 kids ages 12 and under tomorrow receive a replica Matt Carpenter youth jersey, and it is also Prairie Farms Ice Cream Sunday and kids run the bases. The Redbirds are holding a special edition of King Cotton $1 Hot Dog Day tomorrow as well.

The Redbirds' 2016 season concludes with eight games at Oklahoma City and Round Rock next week, before AutoZone Park hosts the Gildan Triple-A National Championship Game on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
