Smith, Fields Homer For Fisher Cats

Trenton Rallies Late For 6-4 Win Tuesday

Manchester - Dwight Smith Jr. and Roemon Fields hit home runs, but Trenton rallied past the Fisher Cats to win 6-4 on Tuesday night at Northeast Delta Dental Stadium.

Smith's homer, his thirteenth, opened the scoring in the bottom of the first. Fields singled and Smith hit his blast off Trenton starter Ronald Herrera.

Trenton (85-51) scored in the top of the third inning. Dante Bichette Jr. singled and moved to second on a single by Francisco Diaz. After a wild pitch, Bichette scored on a groundout by Tyler Wade.

Fields homered for the Fisher Cats in the bottom of the third, but Trenton's Mark Payton tied the game with a two-run shot off New Hampshire starter Wilmer Font in the top of the fourth inning.

New Hampshire (64-72) again moved in front in the bottom of the sixth inning. Smith Jr. walked and after a groundout, scored on a single by Reese McGuire. Again, Trenton responded in the next at bat to tie at 4-4. Abiatal Avelino singled and would score on a single by Dustin Fowler.

The Thunder won the game in the top of the eighth inning. Avelino and Tyler Wade delivered RBI singles off losing reliever John Anderson (3-6). Wilmer Font struck out eight in 5.2 innings, but earned a no decision.

Giovanny Gallegos (2-1) worked 2.1 hitless innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win in relief for the Thunder, who remain 1.5 games behind first-place Reading with six games to play in the 2016 regular season. Trenton and Reading will meet in the playoffs next week.
