River Cats September Call Ups

Blach, Okert, Reynolds, Tomlinson all headed to the show
September 1, 2016

Major League rosters expanded today and four River Cats players now find themselves members of the big club roster, having been called up for the final month of the season.

Headlining the group of call ups is left-handed starter Ty Blach. Blach, who will wear #50 for the Giants (he's ben #31 both seasons in Sacramento) is the only player called up who is seeking his Major League debut. In 26 starts for the River Cats this season, Blach posted a 14-7 record with a 3.43 ERA (62er, 162.2ip). He's been exceptional of late, going 8-2 with a 2.01 ERA (17er, 76.0ip) and 62 strikeouts over his last 11 starts. His 14 victories tied the River cats single season record for wins (also: Graham Godfrey, 2011 and Justin Duchscherer, 2003).

Joining Blach is another left-handed hurler, reliever Steven Okert (#48). This will be Okert's third stint with the Giants this season, have been with the club on two separate occasions in April and again in June. He has thrown 6.0 innings with San Francisco, allowing four runs in seven career Major League outings. Has been a constant in the River Cats bullpen this season, going 4-3 with a 3.80 ERA (20er, 47.1ip) and 60 strikeouts in 41 games (second most on the club). He's been especially good against lefties, holding them to a .235 clip (19-for-81) with Sacramento.

Matt Reynolds (#57), another left-handed reliever, also makes his return to the Giants roster. This is the second time this season that Reynolds has been a member of the San Francisco roster, last appearing with the team in July. Threw one scoreless inning over two outings with San Francisco. The veteran reliever has gone 5-5 with a 3.64 ERA in parts of six Major League seasons with the Colorado Rockies (2010-12), Arizona Diamondbacks (2013 and 2015), and Giants (2016). Reynolds signed a Minor league deal with the Giants in June after being released by the Diamondbacks after Spring Training of this season.

The last September 1 call up is infielder Kelby Tomlinson (#37). Tomlinson started the year the Giants, serving as a utility infielder and a bat off the bench, but was forced to miss 29 games with a left thumb sprain from June 10-July 14. He started 18 of the Giants' first 61 games (11 at 2B, four at SS, one at 3B and two in LF). Following his rehab assignment, the right-handed hitter was optioned to triple-A when he was activated. Since that time, Tomlinson has hit.286 (53-for-185) in 49 games for the River Cats and logged innings at third, second, and shortstop.

In addition to the four call ups, both left-handed reliever Josh Osich and outfielder Mac Williamson have been reinstated from the disabled list and will no longer be making rehab appearances with the River Cats.
