Rainiers Drop Second Straight To Aces, 7-2

Bullpen provides 3.1 innings of scoreless relief
September 4, 2016

TACOMA, Wash. - The Tacoma Rainiers (79-62) were tagged for five unanswered runs in the middle innings of a 7-2 loss to the Reno Aces (76-66) on Saturday night at Cheney Stadium.

Tacoma and Reno exchanged two-run turns to the plate in the third inning. The Aces jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the frame on a two-run double from Chris Hermann, while left fielder Norichika Aoki pulled the Rainiers even with a two-run home run to right field in the bottom of the inning.

However, the Aces would score in each of the next three innings, plating one in the fourth and fifth and three in the sixth, to open up a 7-2 lead over the Rainiers. Tacoma pitchers allowed eight hits and issued two walks over that stretch.

Rainiers starting pitcher Zach Lee (0-9) remained winless in his time with Tacoma after allowing all seven runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings of work. He issued two walks and struck out five.

A combination of Forrest Snow (1.1), Mayckol Guaipe (1.0), and Al Alburuerque represented the Rainiers out of the bullpen. The trio held the Aces scoreless on just four hits over the remainder of the game.

Center fielder Daniel Robertson finished the night 2-for-4, giving the Rainiers their only multi-hit outing.

Rainiers right-hander Sam Gaviglio (3-2, 3.83) and Aces right-hander Matt Koch (4-2, 3.05) square off on the mound tomorrow, August 4. First pitch is set for 1:25 p.m. PT.
