INDIANAPOLIS -Eric Wood laced a two-run triple as part of his 2-for-4 day at the plate, but the Toledo Mud Hens scored the final three runs to rally past the Indianapolis Indians in 10 innings, 6-5, Wednesday afternoon at Victory Field. The Tribe offense racked up 10 hits, but the Indians ultimately fell for a sixth time when leading after six frames.
Toledo (13-11) scored the game-winning run in the 10th when Alex Presley was beaned with the bases loaded. Dan Runzler (0-2) walked James Loney and surrendered a single to Omar Infante to start the inning. With two on and nobody out, Jason Krizan drilled a liner to Jason Rogers down the first-base line, leading to an easy double play. An intentional walk to Michael Almanzar put the force situation back in play, but a walk to Brendan Ryan loaded the bases for Presley who was nailed on Runzler's first offering of the at-bat.
The Indians (8-16) failed to hold separate two-run leads en route to their 10th home defeat of the season. The two teams traded two runs apiece in the third inning, with Wood's two-out triple leveling the score. Prior to Wood's three-bagger, Presley, JaCoby Jones and John Hicks each doubled to give the visitors a two-run advantage.
Indy slotted itself a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Joey Terdoslavich and two-out single from Jackson Williams. After Hicks brought the Mud Hens back within one in the sixth on a two-out knock, Max Moroff clubbed his team-high sixth home run of the season to make it 5-3.
Pitching in a constant drizzle, Dovydas Neverauskas struggled in his three innings of work. A run-scoring groundout by Efren Navarro and RBI single by Hicks brought Toledo even in the seventh, and Runzler's command in the 10th eventually spelled doom for the Tribe.
Christopher Bostick singled in his final at-bat to push his league-best hitting streak to 15 games, one shy of matching his career-high 16-game streak set in 2013.
Toledo's Logan Kensing (1-1) worked a scoreless ninth to earn the win, and Arcenio Leon fired a 1-2-3 inning after the Mud Hens regained the lead for his seventh save.
The Indians and Mud Hens conclude their three-game set Thursday morning at Victory Field. Southpaw Steven Brault (0-3, 3.86) will start for Indy, opposite Mud Hens right-hander Buck Farmer (0-1, 2.51). First pitch is set for 11:05 a.m.
